Welcome to the first correspondence of the 2013-2014 bowling season. The NCS USBCA Board of Directors and the Youth Committee are already preparing some great things for our bowlers this bowling season. You will see more activities performed by our Youth Committee members.
All associations should be receiving the first mailing of the 2013-2014 bowling season the first week in October. In this mailing, local associations will receive a lot of important information that needs your response to some of the correspondence. Entry forms for our Queen’s Tournament are out and the deadline is quickly approaching Sept. 27. That tournament will be held in honor of their past year’s sponsor Lillian Haynes. We are asking all lady bowlers that will, to please join us Oct. 5 at B& B lanes in Fayetteville which was Lillian’s home bowling center. Entry forms are available on our website also and there is no average restriction to enter. Darlene Hatcher is the tournament manager. The entry forms for our Men’s Tournament is out and that deadline is October 1 and it is being held at Sandhills Bowling Lanes in Aberdeen. Richard Beeson is the tournament manager. Our state men bowlers asked for a tournament of their own and we have given you just that. Please bowl in this tournament and represent your local associations. All NC bowling centers and Association Managers should receive entry forms for the 2013 Open and Women Championship Tournaments by Oct. 14. Tournament Manager for the Open Championship Tournament is Pris Hamilton and Tournament Manager for the Women Championship Tournament is Bonnie Daniel. We look forward to seeing you in High Point and Asheboro for these tournaments March 8 to April 13, 2014. We hope you enjoyed the bowling bags given to the participants in our tournaments this past season.
Welcome to our new state board member Kyle Souther (youth director) and we are so excited to have him join us. He is from our Statesville Association and we were lucky to have him join us. Non board committee members this year are: Vickie Beeson, Paul Bumgarner, Sandra Burt, Phyllis Carter, Cleo Denny, Cheryl Dillard, Mike Easterday, Melody Jackson, Sylvia Rebenson, Fred Rebenson, Dennis Smith, Tanje Smith-Perry, and Brittany Worthy. We look forward to working with all of them. I believe this is a step in the right direction to promote bowling in our state. It takes volunteers (board and non-board) to help reach our goals. Having new volunteers brings new and more ideas. I am open to hear the thoughts of all our bowlers, volunteers, and board members. Our one major goal continues to be success and unity. That goal is the best interest for all our bowlers and to help grow the sport of bowling. All I ever ask of anyone is to be willing to share your ideas in a respectful manner, listen to other thoughts, and trust your board. Please know we value the decisions we make and whether we approve or reject we looks at all aspects and come up with the best decision we can and then we support that decision. We simply want to an opportunity to serve all NC bowlers.
Our annual meeting/workshop will be held at the Holiday Inn – I-95 in Fayetteville May 17-18, 2014. I am asking associations to book their rooms with this hotel as we need 50 rooms booked and we need your support for dinner also to meet our requirement costs. You can book your reservations online or by calling them. More detailed information will be given by Jan. 30, 2014. Remember these rooms can accommodate 4 people easily. We will provide a free lunch to delegates again this year. So, I ask your support to lodge and enjoy Sat. night dinner there as well. Be sure to visit our website to view upcoming events and news.
I would like to personally thank Ben Poulos and Willie Williams for dedicating their time and service to our state board and we hope they will be able to return to the board at a later date if their schedule and time permits.
Bowl some great scores this season and we hope to see you on the lanes soon! Yvette Davis, President
